The Lahore High Court has ordered to close the markets at eight o’clock in the night to prevent smog.
On Friday, a hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on various applications related to remediation of smog and environmental pollution, which was heard by Justice Shahid Karim.
The court has ordered that the markets in the province should be closed on Sundays.
Air pollution has intensified due to smog in Lahore, the second largest city of Pakistan.
The provincial government has also closed the primary schools for a week, including green lockdown in Lahore.
The High Court has said that vehicles emitting smoke should be banned from entering the motorway and ring road.
The court has ordered that dolphin police and constables be deployed to control heavy traffic.
‘The main source of pollution is heavy traffic smoke. If notices have been given to heavy traffic, why have they not stopped yet?’
The High Court said that if the buses emitting smoke are fined 50, 50,000, how will it not be fine?
On Thursday, a three-year-old girl from Lahore, Amal Sukhira, approached the Lahore High Court against the non-control of air pollution.
We are taking these steps to help the government. Smog situation should be reviewed by management at night. DC Lahore and the commissioner should go out at night and see what is happening.’
The court said that they do not want to give an order that cannot be implemented.
Last week, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that due to pollution from India, the air pollution index in Lahore has reached 1000 which is alarming.
