Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Zain Qureshi has resigned from the post of Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly. Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s son Zain Qureshi resigned on Saturday after receiving a show cause notice from the party. He has reportedly resigned over allegations of supporting the government lobby for the 26th constitutional amendment.

In Pakistan, on October 20, 2024, the National Assembly and the Senate passed the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill with a two-thirds majority. Meanwhile, several leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf remained absent from the scene. Among them was Zain Qureshi, about whom his sister Meher Bano Qureshi had claimed that her brother had been missing since the morning of October 16 and had no contact with him, however, as soon as the constitutional amendment bill was passed. Zain Qureshi’s video started circulating on Hua Tu X.
In this video, Zain Qureshi was claiming not to be a part of the government lobby for the constitutional amendment bill, while Tehreek-e-Insaaf workers were accusing him of rebelling against the party.
Zain Qureshi said in his video that he had gone into hiding on the request of his father Shah Mehmood Qureshi. According to the video statement, the father called Lahore and said that the constitutional amendment should not be approved under any circumstances. Misleading propaganda is being done against me regarding the support of the constitutional amendment, my going to the National Assembly is not even remotely close.’
In his video, he said that if his meeting with a government official is proved, he will quit politics.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s response
The silence of Zain Qureshi before the constitutional amendment and his coming out after the amendment was passed was suspicious for the PTI workers. On October 23, Tehreek-e-Insaf issued show-cause notices to its 4 members of the assembly who allegedly voted in favor of the constitutional amendment. Showkaz were issued by the party to Zain Qureshi, Aslam Ghman, Moqdad Ali Khan and Riyaz Fatiana.
The show cause notice stated that ‘before the constitutional amendment you severed contact with PTI, there is credible evidence that you contacted the government. Tell me within seven days why you should not be declared a deviant from the party, if you do not respond to the notice, other action will be taken including expulsion from the party.’
Resignation of Zain Qureshi
Tehreek-e-Insaf Deputy Parliamentary Leader Zain Qureshi submitted a reply three days after receiving the show cause notice from the party. He announced his resignation from his post on X.
In a statement released on X, he said, ‘Based on my belief in an independent and transparent inquiry and in recognition of the sentiments of my party workers, I am resigning from the post of Deputy Parliamentary Leader. I am doing this till I get the complete trust of my party, the people of my constituency, friends and our founding chairman Imran Khan.’
“In the interest of public transparency for all PTI supporters, I have now formally replied to my show cause notice and stated all the facts,” he said in his statement. is.’ He further wrote that he will remain loyal to his party, Imran Khan and his father.
