Bomb threats have not stopped Indian Airlines and at least 50 flights received bomb threats in a single day on Sunday. More than 350 flights have faced similar situations in the past two weeks, with most of the threats being made through social media.
Akasa Air reported on Sunday that 15 of its flights received security alerts, according to Hindustan Times. After thorough inspection, all aircraft were cleared for operations. 18 IndiGo flights received threats, while 17 Vistara flights were alerted.
Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Sunday announced that the Center is considering measures to ban people who make hoax bomb threats.
He said that we are also taking the cooperation of international agencies, law enforcement agencies, intelligence bureau to prevent them. We are planning to bring changes in two civil aviation laws. Those resorting to such activities will be severely punished and fined. We are also taking steps to ban such persons, we will announce them in the coming days.’
The Indian government has warned social media platforms of consequential action under the law if they do not comply with the order to immediately remove false information.
The government said in a statement on Saturday that ‘malicious acts like fake bomb threats to airlines pose a potential threat to the public order and security of the state.’
