Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif has become the world snooker champion for the third time after winning the IBSF men’s world snooker competition.
According to Pakistan’s official news service APP, in the final played in Doha on Wednesday, Muhammad Asif won the title after defeating Iran’s Ali Qaraghuzlu 3-5.
Mohammad Asif defeated the Iranian player (70-25, 7-87(84), 82(56)-8, 106(106)-08, 82-12, 43-91(58), 0-118, 93( Defeated by a score of 80-4).
In the 9-frame final in Qatar, Muhammad Asif continued his excellent performance and left the opponent helpless.
With this victory, Muhammad Asif has equaled India’s Pankaj Advani’s record of winning the world title three times.
The Pakistani player also set a record of breaking 6 centuries while showing the best performance in the tournament. He reached the final by defeating Cypriot player Michael Georgiou 3-5 after an interesting contest.
42-year-old Mohammad Asif from Faisalabad won the IBSF World Snooker Championship for the first time in 2012, while he became the World Snooker Champion for the second time in 2019.
Earlier in the World Championship, Mohammad Asif defeated UAE player Mohammad Shahab 1-4 and made it to the final four.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Snooker and Billiard Association Chairman Alamgir Shaikh and other officials have congratulated Muhammad Asif on his magnificent victory and called it a great honor for Pakistan.
He expressed hope that like Arshad Nadeem, who won gold medal in javelin throw at the Paris Olympics, Muhammad Asif, who won the world title for the third time in a row, will also be recognized and rewarded.
