The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
According to the cricket news website ‘Cricinfo’, BCCI has informed the ICC that they are not sending the team to Pakistan on the instructions of the Indian government.
It should be noted that the eight-team Champions Trophy is to be played at three different locations in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9 next year.
Cricinfo says that after the BCCI’s refusal to tour Pakistan, the ICC and the BCCI are expected to come up with an alternative plan, which is likely to be a hybrid model.
Under this hybrid model, other teams participating in the Champions Trophy can play matches in Pakistan and at any other venue.
According to Cricinfo, two countries are under consideration in the hybrid model, Dubai and Sri Lanka, where matches can possibly be played.
Earlier on Friday, Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi denied the reports of Indian media and said that no information was received by BCCI on the decision of Indian team not to come to Pakistan. .
Mohsin Naqvi said that ‘News have been circulating in the Indian media for two months that the Indian team is not coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
He said that ‘there has been no discussion with anyone regarding the hybrid model of the Champions Trophy, nor will we discuss it.’
“As far as the Indian media reports are concerned, there will be a written letter that will be given to us by the ICC, but no such letter has reached the PCB.”
“We still want no politics in cricket, we will continue the preparations we are making for the Champions Trophy and it will be a successful tournament.”
