Former member and singer Liam Penn of the famous British pop band ‘One Direction’ has died after falling from a hotel balcony.
According to the British news agency Reuters, the 31-year-old singer died after falling from the third floor of his hotel on Wednesday.
Local police said the singer was staying at the Casasar Hotel in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires when he fell from the third floor and was seriously injured.
According to the Buenos Aires police, ‘they received information on the helpline that a drunk person was in the hotel and that there was a sound of vandalism coming from the room.’
When the police reached the spot, the hotel manager said that they heard a loud noise from the inner courtyard of the hotel, after which they came to know that a person had fallen from the balcony of his room.
In audio related to the case, obtained from Buenos Aires’ security ministry, an activist can be heard calling for police help.
Hotel Works is saying in this audio message ‘A person is destroying his room, the lives of other people staying in the hotel are in danger, send someone help soon.’
According to details received from local Argentine media, the country’s emergency medical system services are investigating the incident and the singer’s body has been sent for an autopsy.
Although the exact cause of Liam Penn’s death is still unknown, Penn has been seen speaking frequently about his struggles with mental health issues and his use of alcohol to cope with the pressures of fame.
Liam Penn was one of the five members of the band One Direction. The band was formed when its members auditioned for the British singing competition ‘The X Factor’ in 2010. He was joined by Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horne and Zayn Malik in this band.
The members of One Direction did not win the X Factor competition but emerged as the most popular band in the world. The band sold over 70 million records worldwide, including hits such as ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, Night Changes and ‘Steal My Girl’.
Liam Penn started a solo career after the band One Direction disbanded and became very popular in the world of hip-hop music in electronic dance music.
At the beginning of October this month, Liam Penn attended the concert of Niall Horne, another former singer of the One Direction band, for which he was in Argentina.
Earlier on Wednesday, Lim Pan posted on his Snapchat about his trip to Argentina, riding horses and playing polo.
In his last social media post, he shared the story of having breakfast with his partner and wrote, ‘It’s a beautiful day here in Argentina.’
Lim Pan also has a 7-year-old son with his ex-girlfriend. His ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole is a singer by profession and was an ‘X Factor’ judge during One Direction’s season. The two started dating each other a few years after the show.
Penn was previously engaged to Maya Henry from August 2020 to early 2022.
In addition to his son, Liam Penn is survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Penn, and his two older sisters, Ruth and Nicola.
