Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who rose to fame with hits like Company, Road, Saathiya and Yuva, has become a victim of the industry’s internal politics and is forced to take up business as an alternative career.
According to Indian news channel NDTV, in an interview, Vivek Oberoi said that even after his song ‘Ganpath’ in the film ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ went viral, he had to sit at home for 14 to 15 months.
Vivek blamed Bollywood’s ‘lobby’ culture for affecting his career. “I have done about 67 projects in 22 years, but the industry is a very unsafe place,” he said. You can be doing well, winning awards, and doing your job as an actor, but at the same time you can’t get work for nothing.’
‘After 2007 when I did Shootout at Lokhandwala, I won awards, so I expected a lot of offers. But after the success of the film, I stayed at home for 14 to 15 months.’
According to him, ‘I decided in 2009 that I should not be completely dependent on him but should gain my financial independence. I didn’t want to be in a situation where a lobby decides your future.’
Vivek dared to change his profession and the business helped him overcome difficult situations by gaining financial independence.
‘Business was always a plan B and I decided that cinema would be my passion. My livelihood should be my business, which helped me gain my freedom and get out of this trap of lobbyists.’
This is not the first time Vivek has spoken about professional difficulties. “I faced trolling, public humiliation and professional sabotage,” she previously told Entertainment Live. Projects were taken away from me after I signed, and I received threats from the underworld, the police had to provide me with an armed guard and a gun.’
