YouTube service affected in Pakistan, ‘slowed down due to political situation’

YouTube service has been slowed down in various cities of Pakistan on Sunday. Especially YouTubers discussing the political situation of the country are facing problems in uploading and loading their vlogs.
In this regard, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) spokesperson Malahat Ubaid says that PTA has not received any complaint regarding YouTube service being affected in the country.
He said that if there is a disruption in the YouTube service in an area, the PTA will take cognizance of the matter on receipt of complaints or on its own behalf and then try to resolve the issues.
When Urdu News tried to get the opinions of YouTubers and information technology experts regarding the slowdown in the service of YouTube, they said that the services have been slowed down for users using YouTube on mobile in Pakistan since last night. However, the effect of these restrictions on a laptop or web browser is reduced.
Ban on YouTube services, resort to web management system (firewall).
Regarding the slowdown of YouTube services in Pakistan, a senior official of the Ministry of Information Technology has told Urdu News that due to the overall political situation in the country, YouTube services have been slowed down through the firewall.
He said that currently YouTube has not been completely blocked or slowed down in the country, however, due to the call of protest demonstration by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on November 24, the uploading of vlogs on YouTube has been slowed down. TI is providing information about the protest.
He said that in the coming days, a decision will be taken to shut down or restore social media platforms only after looking at the political situation of the country.
Senior journalist Umar Cheema has told Urdu News regarding the disruption in the service of YouTube that the services of YouTube have been affected to some extent in Pakistan for the last three to four days. Umar Cheema said that it is not clear to him whether YouTube’s services have been affected by the firewall or not, but there has been a relative decrease in viewership on Vlogs uploaded at that time.
According to information technology expert Rohan Zaki, YouTube services in Pakistan must have been affected to some extent on Sunday. He told Urdu News that it seems that uploading and loading of pre-uploaded vlogs has been made difficult for YouTubers who are currently commenting on the political situation in the country.

According to Rohan Zaki, the problem of using YouTube on mobile phones is currently being seen because it is easier for the authorities to impose restrictions on apps used on mobile phones. Conversely, a ban on social media apps on a web browser or laptop can be bypassed through various means.
It should be noted that in recent times in Pakistan users are facing problems in using social networking websites. In this regard, Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and PTA have also worked on the installation of web management system i.e. firewall through which social media apps or internet services are slowed down in the country when necessary.
Closure of X in Pakistan
Along with the installation of firewall, the service of social networking website X has also been shut down in Pakistan for the past several months.
In this regard, the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan has described X as a threat to the country’s security and said that hateful content against the country’s institutions is uploaded on X, all of which have been banned on X for the security of the country. . In a statement, the Home Ministry said all legal requirements were met before X was banned.
