Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has met the President of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the Climate Action Summit (COP-29) of world leaders.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Aliyev on the successful holding of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit in Baku.
He appreciated President Aliyev’s vision and determination to deal with the challenges arising from climate change and increase international cooperation in this regard.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that despite having a small share in the emission of toxic gases, Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to work with Azerbaijan and the international community on climate change challenges.
The two leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
He expressed determination to further strengthen strategic partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in various fields, especially economic and defense cooperation, and to strengthen people-to-people relations as well as cultural relations.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his satisfaction over the strong relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and expressed determination to further increase cooperation in various fields including joint projects in technology, renewable energy.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East and other regional and international developments.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his address at the Climate Action Summit that due to climate change, Pakistan faced devastating floods in 2022. Pakistan lost 30 billion dollars due to floods. The amount of aid that should have been received was not received.‘
He said that Pakistan is among the 10 countries most affected by climate change.
