Chief Justice Yahya Afridi reconstituted the Practice and Procedure Committee after taking oath

Justice Yahya Afridi has taken oath as the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The oath-taking ceremony was held on Saturday at the President’s House where the President of Pakistan Asif Zardari administered the oath to Justice Yahya Afridi.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chiefs of Armed Forces, Chief Ministers, Federal Ministers and other personalities participated in the ceremony.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi also participated in the event.
Supreme Court Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Athar Manullah and retired judges were also present in the ceremony.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi reached the Supreme Court where he was presented with a guard of honour.
Registrar Supreme Court Jazeela Saleem presented a bouquet of flowers to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
After the swearing in of the new Chief Justice, the website of the Supreme Court was also updated.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has reconstituted the Practice and Procedure Committee after taking charge of the post. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar have been included in the committee.
By updating the name of Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice in place of Qazi Faiz Isa, according to the website of the Supreme Court, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is the most senior judge after Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
It should be noted that Qazi Faiz Isa resigned from his post on Friday after serving as Chief Justice for 13 months.
The Parliamentary Committee constituted for the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan nominated Justice Yahya Afridi as the new Chief Justice of the country, after which the appointment notification was issued upon the approval of the President of Pakistan.

On Wednesday, it was said in a statement issued by the President’s House that the President of Pakistan has appointed Justice Yahya Afridi for three years from October 26. This appointment is made under Article 175A (3), 177 and 179 of the Constitution.
A meeting of the committee was held at the Parliament House Islamabad on Tuesday, in which the names and details of the three senior-most judges of the Supreme Court were considered.
The Law Ministry had sent details about Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Yahya Afridi to the committee. The committee nominated Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan by a two-thirds majority.
It should be noted that in the light of the 26th constitutional amendment, the government is bound to issue a notification for the appointment of a new chief justice three days before the tenure of the chief justice ends. The condition of three days is only for now whereas in future this appointment must be done fifteen days in advance.
Who is Justice Yahya Afridi?
Hailing from Dera Ismail Khan, Justice Yahya Afridi is a graduate of Aitchison College and Cambridge. Justice Yahya Afridi, who started practicing law in 1990, was also the Assistant Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was also a partner in the law firm of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
In the year 2010, he was appointed as a judge of Peshawar High Court. According to the Supreme Court website, he was the first judge from FATA to become the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. However, in 2018, he was made a judge of the Supreme Court.
