46 members of the US Congress have asked in a letter to the outgoing US President Joe Biden to urgently advocate for the release of Imran Khan and other political prisoners.
In the letter published by Century, the US President has been urged to take action on the resolution of the House of Representatives on human rights.
According to the letter written by the members of the Congress, Imran Khan has been kept under constant detention, attempts were made to keep Tehreek-e-Insaaf away from the February elections, and the US is expected to use its influence to restore democracy in Pakistan. will.’
The letter states that, after the general elections of February 8, 2024, human rights violations and civil liberties continue to be violated in Pakistan, therefore, according to the resolution number 901 passed in the US House, the United States will change its policy towards Pakistan. Review it.’
In the letter, the Congress members also alleged electoral rigging and irregularities in the last general elections in Pakistan. According to the text of the letter, the government used its influence to defeat the country’s popular party PTI and its leaders by changing their votes.
“The Pakistani government’s ban on social media prevented PTI’s campaigning during the election and arrests of PTI founders and other party leaders by government officials.”
According to the letter, the government did not allow the monitoring reports of organizations such as the Commonwealth Observer Group and the European Union on the election to be made public. In the letter, the Congress members have taken a stand that Pakistan’s popular leader Imran Khan has been illegally imprisoned.
“Various international organizations have also demanded the release of senior leaders including Imran Khan, including Yasmin Rashid and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, but we have not come to our knowledge of any effort by the American Embassy in this regard.”
In this regard, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal in a conversation with Urdu News termed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s hopes of America as a ‘joke’ and said, ‘It is a big joke that the party that used to say that slavery Rejected, American intervention rejected, now she is bowing before every servant of America to help us. This clearly means that President Trump or Joe Biden will first release Imran Khan and then Imran Khan will be freed and free the Pakistani nation from American slavery.
He further said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is opening doors for external interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan.
They are trying to open the doors of foreign interference in Pakistan. In fact, anti-Pakistan lobbies are working behind them so that foreign powers can find a way to interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan. All of them have become tools of anti-national elements at this time.’
On the question that if the US or any other country demands the release of Imran Khan from Pakistan, what will be the reaction of the government? Ahsan Iqbal said that no country can interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan. Pakistan is a free and independent country and the decisions here will be made by the people within the country. No one has the authority to make our decisions from outside.’
It should be noted that earlier, more than 60 members of the US House of Representatives wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden last month. The letter also demanded the release of political prisoners in Pakistani jails including Imran Khan. Besides, during the recent presidential elections in the United States, the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has also hoped for the release of Imran Khan from the former American President Donald Trump.
