In an article published in NDTV, nutritionist Deepshikha Jain points out the time at which weight gain can lead to worst results.
Weighing after eating and drinking
What you eat or drink before the weigh-in makes a big difference. If you eat or drink well before weighing, you will weigh more. This happens because your stomach is still digesting food. To check the weight, make sure you are either on an empty stomach or have had a light meal.
Do not weigh yourself during your period
According to nutritionists, checking your weight during menstruation should be avoided. During this time, hormonal changes occur in the body which can cause water retention in the body which can lead to temporary weight gain. So weigh yourself after your period ends.
After exercise
Do you have a habit of weighing yourself after exercise? People want to see if they’ve lost weight, but if you do it after a workout, don’t. Remember that weight loss does not happen overnight. Deepshikha explains that ‘your muscles can retain water during the post-workout recovery, which can lead to a slight weight gain.’
According to him, ‘first give your body time to get back to normal and then weigh yourself.’
Immediately after waking up
Checking your weight immediately after waking up should also be avoided. Although it is often recommended to weigh yourself in the morning, avoid it if you have had a disturbed sleep or drank water during the night. According to the nutritionist, don’t check your weight if you feel bloated or dehydrated. Check your weight when you feel better.
After returning from vacation
Checking your weight right after returning from vacation may not be a good idea. During the holidays we tend to overeat which results in weight gain. So give yourself some time. During this time follow the diet and fitness routine and check the weight later.
