Jyan Boumedine of Moroccan fashion brand Jyann is among the finalists of the ‘Fashion Trust Arabia’ event to be held in Morocco on October 24.
According to Arab News, the Fashion Trust Arabia Award finalist preserves handbags and hats in Morocco using an ancient method of handcrafting wool.
Established in 2021, this unique brand in the world of fashion is known for its handcrafted handbags and hats, especially made from wool.
The brand obtains wool from Moroccan sheep to create handicrafts that are thousands of years old and an integral part of the country’s cultural identity.
A special type of cloth made from wool obtained from sheep has been considered a very popular textile product in ancient times.
The laborious process of unraveling the wool fibers by hand is done by cleaning them with soap and water and giving them different colors.
This technique has been passed down for generations among Moroccan artisans, particularly in the Atlas Mountains where Gian Boumedin sources the wool for their well-known brand.
Wool from this region of Morocco has many wonderful properties, it is extremely soft, durable with uniform fibers and looks beautiful.
Fashion for Bumidian is not just about aesthetics but a positive initiative to preserve and promote traditional crafts.
‘Our approach is to carefully prepare the wool for our products at all levels, from the sheep farmers to the artisans on the Atlas Mountains,’ says Jian.
The Fashion Trust Arabia Award is a very important milestone for Gian Boumidian and his renowned handicraft brand.
To produce the brand’s handbags and hats, the wool goes through various stages that take five to seven days.
“Winning the Fashion Trust Award allows us to further our work, which is important not only to create products but also to preserve ancient techniques,” says Gian Boumiden.
The Fashion Trust Awards Advisory Committee has selected 18 finalists from applications submitted by emerging talent from the Middle East and North Africa region.
