Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a media briefing on Thursday that ‘Pakistan and America are old friends and partners. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated the newly elected US President Donald Trump. Pakistan wants strong bilateral relations with America.
The spokesperson was asked that there is a debate going on in Pakistan that after the success of Donald Trump and the change of government, any political party in Pakistan can benefit or they are likely to get any relief. In response to which the spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that ‘Pakistan and the United States are long-standing partners, but both strictly adhere to the policy that we do not comment on each other’s internal political affairs. If a political leader has said something like that in a political meeting or in his statement, the Foreign Office does not make any kind of comment on political statements. ‘
In another question, when the spokesperson was asked that the United States has not elected a woman president in its history, is it not a matter of moment for women’s rights and its advocates? So he said that ‘Pakistan does not interfere in the politics and internal affairs of other countries. Pakistan and America are old friends and partners, we have relations based on non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. Just as we would not like the United States to speculate on Pakistan’s internal political affairs, the United States would not like us to make any comments on its internal political affairs.’
When the spokesperson of the Foreign Office was asked whether there will be any kind of discussion with the new American administration on the issue of cipher, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that the discussion between the Foreign Mission of Pakistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is under the Secret Act. It happens. Therefore, the cipher that is being mentioned is also protected under the Official Secrets Act and as a spokesperson it is beyond his mandate to make any kind of statement on the media.
The spokesperson said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated the newly elected US President Donald Trump on his success.
Regarding the attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that the two countries are in contact at the highest level in this regard and are constantly discussing these issues. The embassies of both the countries play their role in this regard while security agencies within Pakistan are taking measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens.
