A fraudulent customer has stolen more than 22 tons of ‘luxury cheddar cheese’ from the famous British cheese company ‘Neil’s Yard Dairy’.
According to Sky News, the owners of Niles Hard Dairy Company said that the impostor stole cheese worth more than 300,000 pounds (100 million Pakistani rupees) from the company by pretending to be a French customer.
Following this fraud, Dairy House and its partners are facing a huge financial blow.
The company said it had shipped a total of 950 paneer parcels by the time it came to know about the forged identity of the buyer.
However, the company says that despite such a huge loss, it has paid its small-scale cheese suppliers in full as promised.
‘The company is taking steps to manage the situation to ensure financial stability and the growth of the British cheese sector.’
Three types of cheese have been stolen from Neil’s Hard Dairy Company, including Heywood Welsh Organic Cheddar, Westcombe Cheddar and Pitchfork Cheddar.
‘These cheeses have won numerous awards and are in high demand in the UK,’ the company said. Due to the high price, these cheeses are likely to become a particular target for thieves.’
Patrick Holden, owner of the farm where Heywood Cheddar is produced, said it seems silly to fall for a scam but the truth is that trust and confidence in this sector means a lot.’
This breach of trust by this fraudulent customer is a breach of the atmosphere of good faith and respect that Neil’s Yard Company has maintained over the years.’
Tom Calver, director of Westcombe Dairy, said he was shocked that ‘this fraud has targeted one of our most valuable customers.’
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are ‘investigating reports of the theft of a large quantity of cheese from a company based in Southwark. The inquiry is ongoing.’
